It's a fact it isn't. Gulf War Syndrome has more potential to be a real disease and it's bullshit too.

I always thought of it as a psychiatric disorder along the lines of Munchausen.
The Mayo Clinic says this: Morgellons disease shares characteristics with various recognized conditions, including Lyme disease, liver or kidney disease, schizophrenia, drug or alcohol abuse, and a mental illness involving false beliefs about infestation by parasites (delusional parasitosis).

So I'm going with the mental illness thing. I think these people are doing it to themselves.
